Seagulls: Heroes of the Coast
Seagulls are a common sight on coastlines around the world. These birds, with their characteristic calls and majestic flight, play an important role in the maritime ecosystem.
External features
Seagulls are medium to large birds, depending on the species. They generally have a white body with gray or black wings and a yellow beak. Young seagulls are often brownish speckled and acquire their adult plumage after about four years. Their strong, pointed beak is ideal for their varied diet.
Habitat
Seagulls are highly adaptive birds and are found in a variety of habitats, although they are mainly associated with coastal areas. They often nest on rocky cliffs, beaches and increasingly also in urban areas where they nest on building roofs. These birds are widespread around the world and can adapt to a variety of climates, from cold Arctic regions to warm tropical coasts.
