Seals are one of the most popular marine mammals in the world. With their cute appearance and playful behavior, they attract the attention of nature lovers and scientists around the world. But behind their charming appearance lies a complex and often endangered life.

External Features

Seals have a streamlined, pear-shaped body that is perfectly adapted to aquatic life. They have no external ears, but only small ear openings, which help them to swim faster. Their short, thick coat varies in color depending on the species and can be gray, brown, or sometimes almost black, often with spots or stripes that serve as camouflage.

What really stands out about seals is their pair of strong fins, which they use to move around in the water. The front fins, or flippers, are short and wide, with sturdy claws at the ends, which help them move across the land and scratch themselves. The rear fins are more adapted to swimming and cannot be bent forward like in sea lions, so seals move overland with a characteristic “waddle”.
