Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (born July 10, 1942), known professionally as Rodriguez, is an American singer-songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. Although his career initially received little fuss in the United States, he found success in South Africa, Australia (touring the country twice) and New Zealand. Unbeknownst to him for decades, his music has been extremely successful and influential in South Africa, where he is thought to have sold more records than Elvis Presley, as well as in other countries in South Africa. Information about him was scarce and it was wrongly rumored that he had committed suicide shortly after releasing his second album.

Searching For Sugar Man (86 min.), a movie by Malik Bendjelloul 2012, who won the Oscar for Best Documentary, serves Rodriguez's life story as an unadulterated detective. Through all kinds of people from his immediate surroundings, including his three adult daughters, the docu is getting closer and closer to the illustrious singer. After which the story, as befits a musical thriller, takes an unexpected turn and then works towards a particularly satisfying apotheosis.
