Sigma Male Rules are ALARMING- Here's why

As promised, here I am with the very first weird thought that pokes my mind every now and then.

Just when I decided to take my social presence from one platform to another, I made a profile on Twitter and found it really fun. From wisdom and knowledge to shitposting and absurd thoughts, you’ll find everything on the platform in abundance, for free!

That’s exactly where I found a viral tweet talking about the introduction of a new masculine category following which men can place themselves at the top of an imaginary hierarchy of “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma”, and “omega” males. *Like society didn’t already have enough tight outline to fit the world into!*

So, Sigma male is a man recognized as a lone wolf or a mysterious man who demands personal space in unusual amounts, is a rule-breaker, risk-taker, confident, curious, and self-reliant. Just after I read these traits of a Sigma male, all I could think of was a famous Keanu Reeves’ character, John Wick!

This manhood mythology doesn’t satiate here. It goes on relating the signs of Sigma male to the following zodiac signs:

Scorpios: The secretive trait of scorpions is paired with the trait of the Sigma male that implies the content with their life that they have created for themselves.

Capricorns: Capricorns are believed to be self-assured loners who are well aware of their intellect. Well, with such traits, they can qualify for Sigma male application form, easily!

This manhood mythology is based on the absurdly illogical belief that the humans resemble a pack of wolves who are destined to be led by aggressive leader “ALPHA”! (FYI, Sigma male is an introverted alpha male).

When I researched further, I found that it is not only how humans don’t operate, it’s not even how a pack of wolves functions! In fact, a study on wild wolves concluded that their behavior was far more distinct than alpha and his cowering subordinates.

But just how we have been surrendering to society’s norms forever, we surrendered to this ridiculous ideology.

I believe the concept of the alpha male was given birth to normalize oppressive hierarchies and bring down people to empty stereotypes. Like it has been drafted to justify poisonous perspectives and overstate pre-existing insecurities.

The other categories: beta, gamma, and omega males who are placed downwards in the hierarchy are unlikely to be financially stable, or are incompetent to attract a sexual partner.

I think, the whole idea of these made-up categories and hierarchies is as insightful and important as the Buzzfeed quiz that involves people matching celebrities’ eyes with their full faces. What do you think?
