Los Lobos. The first thing that is often said is: "Oh yes, we know them from La Bamba. " This number 1 hit in 1987 was a breakthrough for Los Lobos. But Los Lobos is much more than just Spanish songs. This rock band has songs in both Spanish and English. Based in Los Angeles, this band has a mix of musical styles and is also known as the chicano rock band. Chicano refers to children of Mexican parents and born in Los Angeles.

The band was formed in 1973. At that time, they mainly played at weddings and parties. In 1983, their first album And A Time To Dance was released. In 1984, they released a second album entitled How Will The Wolf Survive. This album contains the title track of the same name. The album only became better known and appreciated in 1989, when it was listed in the Rolling Stone List of 100 greatest albums of the 80s at number 30.

This album was well-received by music critics, but sales lagged behind. Nevertheless, they were able to buy a camper van from the sale, which enabled them to tour America.
They wrote several songs and when writing the song Will The Wolf Survive, they were inspired by an article in the National Geographic entitled "Will The Wolf Survive?" which was about a wolf that had to survive. The band also felt that they had to survive in the music industry because of their Mexican background. They wondered if they were going to make it as a band. Would they be noticed? That uncertainty led to writing and releasing this song. That also explains the name of the band Los Lobos which means The Wolves in Spanish.

Success did not come immediately, but the song was later picked up well and after that several songs and albums appeared, including songs for films, among which Desperado for which they received a Grammy. They have also been a great inspiration to the Limburg band Rowwen Hèze. Los Lobos is still active today.
