SPENCER . A FANTASTIC SHOW THAT'S WORTH YOUR TIME
#Whattowatch Modern movies about the war for power and control are some of the most known and well-received pieces of art and as they are based on real and actual events that have happened in human history, make them even more appealing and fun to watch. A movie or show, whatever you like to call it, which doesn't have any traditional warriors or armies fighting against one another, but still makes the viewer watch it entirely and feel for the main character is Spencer. Although the name might suggest some common movie that will never make it to mainstream media and will be forgotten to time, Spencer actually tells a What If scenario as to what might've happened during the last few days when Princess Diana was still alive. You may be thinking to yourself "This sounds just like another boring movie with some royals in it", but that's where you'd be mistaken. Although the movie may be a What If scenario, it still holds some truth to it and can make you wonder how history would've panned out if this the real events. Spencer is definitely worth your time and here's why.
It makes you wonder
Even if you are an avid fan of the royal family of Great Britain and you won't hear any other stories regarding the death of Princess Diana, this movie makes you wonder and think about what could've happened if something was different. This show holds a lot of power in it as it handles a very sensitive and controversial subject that not a lot of people want to dwell on as the royal family of Great Britain has made it clear that Princess Diana's death was just an accident and nothing more, but the show tackles another issue: What would've happened if something were to change? It puts your imagination into working and into thinking of all the different scenarios that could've happened and what didn't occur to you at first may very well be explained later on.
It gives a satisfying conclusion
We all know how Princess Diana's story ends, a car accident where she died alongside her lover Dodi Fayed and this show doesn't present us with what happened, but a different scenario where Diana keeps on living and takes her children to London so that they may grow up independently from the royal family. Every event in the show allows Diana to live on and it makes us the viewers respect and understand her motivations better. The ending makes us feel good knowing we got somewhat of a happy ending and the end result wasn't death. The show doesn't shy away from showing the unflattering side of the royals and how they ignored and treated Diana, although they may not very well be liked by the royal family which further proves the points and makes us the viewer question as to why Diana had to die or wasn't there some sort of another path for her to take in order to live.
It has a great cast
With Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana and Jack Farthing as Prince Charles, you can expect great things. Sally Hawkins as Maggie is definitely one of the best choices for casting as you can tell how much work and dedication went towards making the character as real as possible and Kristen Stewart's performance as Princess Diana leaves us breathless. She is able to convey the feelings and thoughts of such a tragic character with the utmost care and dedication which sets this role aside from her other ones. Princess Diana is not an easy character to portray as she is complex and no one knew what she was truly thinking about most of the time and her ability to pull off such a great performance with what little information they had is truly what separates her from the rest of the cast. Stella Gonet portrays Queen Elizabeth and being able to portray such a grandiose and powerful person is a feat on its own. You feel like you are watching doppelgangers of these real-life characters and it tricks your brain into believing that this is the right way of events.
Focusing on the main point
The movie doesn't waste time dealing with other parts of Princess Diana's life, rather focusing on her last days and the way things could've gone. This is good because it doesn't bore the viewer and it gets straight to the point of the movie which doesn't waste our time and makes it all the more worthwhile to watch. This is in fact so true that the movie could have been over 3 hours longs, but it's a measly 1 hour and 51 minutes long, meaning you will have all the time in the world for your other responsibilities and it won't tire you. Movies like Spencer allow the viewer to get the main point of the movie with no distractions or sidetracks and keep it as straightforward as possible, making it very easy to understand and imagine.
