#MEIDOORN 😍 This picture I took Easter (12-4-2020) by 19.00 hours. It was a beautiful day with a temperature of over 20 degrees Celsius. By 6:00 p.m., some veil clouds came on. Still I decided to take a picture of the blooming hawthorn at the Stellinkgat in Meppel.
Hawthorn is also called hawthorn or hedthorn. The name can be explained in two ways. First, as a hedge or hedge, because it was used as a fence of a piece of land. Hail or haogel also means hostile and may be explained by the fact that a hawthorn hedge is hostile to an intruder (because of the spines).
The thorny shrub is native to Europe and Siberia and has been brought from here to North America where it does well. Hawthorns, like the wild mountain ash, belong to the roses family.
