#STEENWIJK : #STEENWIJK :This picture was taken during the raiding of the evening at the Steenwijker #Diep in Steenwijk with a view of the famous Steenwijker #Toren Steenwijk (Lower Saxon: Steenwiek or Stienwiek) is a town in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is the largest town in the municipality of Steenwijkerland and after Kampen, the largest town in the #Kop of Overijssel.
On 1 January 2001, the municipalities of Steenwijk, Brederwiede and IJsselham were merged into the municipality of Steenwijk. The inhabitants of Brederwiede and IJsselham disagreed with this' new 'name, because it seemed as if these municipalities had been annexed by Steenwijk. They gave a name like #Kop from Overijssel or “Steenwijkerland” better to find. On 1 January 2003 the name of the municipality was changed to Steenwijkerland. This municipality also includes the towns of Blokzijl, Vollenhove, the villages of Kuinre and Giethoorn and several smaller villages and villages.
Recent area developments at Steenwijk include Tuk-Noord, Kornputkwartier and Eeserwold.
Originally, Steenwijk is an old fortified city. The canals and ramparts originate from the time of the Eighty Years' War, when Steenwijk was a strategic place in the battle between the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands and Spain.
