🎙️ The story behind the title

The title Suicide Blonde raises a lot of questions — and that's exactly what INXS wanted to achieve with it. The term comes from a comment made by Kylie Minogue, frontman Michael Hutchence's then-girlfriend. She had bleached her hair for a movie role and jokingly said: “I'm a suicide blonde — dyed by my own hand.” That pun touched Hutchence's mind, and it grew into a central metaphor for the song.

But the meaning goes deeper than a funny quote. Suicide Blonde refers more broadly to the idea of outer transformation as protection or flight. It's about seduction, self-loss, identity, and how people can reinvent themselves — sometimes at the cost of who they really are.
