A Dutch fishing boat left a sea of dead fish off the west coast of France. Sea Shepherd activists are furious and speak of “a floating carpet” in which at least 100,000 fish float. The dead animals are spread over an area of three square kilometers. The cause would lie in a technical problem on the FV Margiris, the second largest fishing vessel in the world. There would have been a tear in the boat's tow net.

The Margiris is owned by a Dutch company, but sails under Lithuanian flag. French Minister of the Sea Annick Girardin speaks disgrace of the incident. She wants to find out if legal action is possible against the shipping company. The European Union has also announced an investigation, both into the incident and the large-scale trawl net fishing. #news #fishery #trawlnetfishing   #oceanfished #tidings
