The story
Swiebertje is about the carefree tramp of the same name who spends his time in a small and friendly village. Sometimes he sleeps in a haystack, sometimes in the mayor's gazebo. He always needs money, but only gets it in honest ways: everywhere he has jobs and chores. This does not prevent him from getting it on the stick every now and then with Brommoustache, the field ranger. He wants to lock him up in “the loft under the tower”. Fortunately, Swieber always manages to escape the misery and all episodes end well.

Swieber's best friend in town is Saartje, the mayor's housekeeper. She occasionally gives him a plate of food or a cup of coffee and if necessary put in a good word for him. Swiebertje always does his best to court her.
