In a distant past (around the year 2000) I did a LOI course Scenario Writing. I got acquainted with the subject during my studies in Communication at the University of Applied Sciences Holland (later INHolland). That tasted like more, so I decided to take a LOI course. Unfortunately I was never able to complete the course, but the knowledge (and documents) they no longer take away from me;) One of the assignments was to write a synopsis (short content) for a film. The plan was to extend this one day to a full scenario, but it never really happened. I'd like to share my synopsis with you now. Besides, it's not a happy story... #movie #yoorsdecember

The story takes place in Aalsmeer in the year 2003. To emphasize that the protagonist is not going well at some point, it is in the beginning of the film in the middle of summer and after that (if the actor has lost his job etc., it is winter; dark weather). The themes are: ambition, happiness, tragedy, willpower, downfall. These themes are not time-bound and can occur in the life of any actor. Partly because of this, little attention will be paid in the film to the year in which the film takes place.

The main characters in the film are: Herman Pieters, an ambitious actor, Christa Bastiaans, his counterpart from the soap opera and Harry Kras, the director, who is well friends with Herman and Christa. Herman Pieters is a man of 35 years, who wanted to become an actor from his childhood. Now that he has finally managed to get a role in a television production (with the motivation “well, it's a soap opera, but you have to start somewhere”), he doesn't want to give it up for any more gold. Christa Bastiaans is a patient woman around 30 years old. She grew up in a family where her father and brother were already active as an actor. This was a good motivation for her to want to follow in their footsteps. Harry Kras is a friendly man of around 50, who loves his work. Furthermore, he is very sociable and committed to the actors. He thinks it's important that they feel comfortable with the work they do.

Other important characters in this film are: Margriet Pieters, the 34-year-old woman of Herman, who is charmed by Herman's ambition (at the beginning) and mother of a child named Roy. Roy Pieters is a boy of 8, who is very keen on his father and would like to follow in his footsteps. Opposite them are Gert and Loes Pieters, the 70-year-old parents of Herman. They would have preferred that their son had chosen another profession and, like his younger brother Filip, had gone to work in the case of his parents (they are in the legal profession). They only got older at a later age, because they didn't give themselves time for it; they were too busy with their law firm. But when they were a little older, they realized that they had no successors to continue their law firm. So their first son, Herman, was born. They tried to push Herman from an early age to go into the legal profession, but Herman liked it much better to dress up and perform plays. This to the displeasure of his parents. They decide to 'take' another child in the hope that he will follow in the footsteps of his parents. This time they are more fortunate; Filip is willing to join the legal profession. This is evident from an early age. Because of this, Filip is the favorite of his parents and he can do no harm in their eyes. At first they did not have a good attitude with Margriet, but after she sees what is happening with Herman, this attitude improves. She is now starting to believe that Herman might have listened better to his parents and become a lawyer.

The 30-year-old Filip, can't understand why his brother Herman wants to play “actor “rather than learn a “real “trade. He is his parents' favorite. Filip also has a crush on Margriet, but Margriet doesn't want to know anything about him; after all, she is happily married to Herman. Herman has finally realised his dream: he plays in the soap 'there will be better times' of 'De Kweekpond' in Aalsmeer. The man, however, is so ambitious that he soon thinks he needs more text and starts to interfere with the direction. His friends, Harry Kras and Christa Bastiaans, do not mind that he is dealing with the direction, but at some point Herman wants to change almost everything about the scenario and of course the director cannot agree to this. He kindly asks Herman what is going on and whether he does not want to interfere with the direction anymore, and Herman agrees to this. At home, he tells his wife and son what happened. His wife warns him that he should listen to the director, otherwise Herman may lose his job. Things are going well for a few weeks, and Herman seems to keep his promise.
