Tension to the Winners' Block
#winnaar #winner #deelnemers #omroeper #plan Nico walked directly to his two friends Cor and Louis. “I feel so bad, I'd like to bumble down again.” Cor looked at him for a moment and replied “yes, yes, we have given our energy and salvation to help you, that is a fact”, and put an arm around the shoulder of his soaked friend. Nico was ashamed and looked at the ground for a moment. He knew there was a downside to the success and had to face it now. His soaked suit began to irritate him, and he wanted to change. Moreover, the soapbox was left in the water, on which he wanted to return home immediately. Louis gave his right hand to Rens to congratulate him, but he looked at Nico with a tense look. The female broadcaster still sounded clear by the audience, so that the four friends stopped their conversation for a while. The word “winners” was clearly a reverberation from the speakers, which put the audience on focus. Nico had withdrawn his left hand from that of Louis and looked in the distance at the female broadcaster who was extensively talking and watching the audience. “I don't really want to stay too long” Nico started, “I lost to all the other participants.” The three friends around Nico looked at him not comprehensively but penetrating. “I think we should follow the whole spectacle, because many wooden boards have had to cut and fasten.” Cor said it very emphatically and Louis nodded along. “The two figures are apparently already in turn, so maybe not everything has been for nothing” said Louis looking at his right side. They all looked in the same direction and Rens confirmed with “yes, that will be fine but still I think it better to try to get closer.” He suddenly pushed his hand against Nico's back, so that this light touch felt as he stepped forward. Louis looked sheep-like and walked a few steps before Rens and Nico, towards the two figures in the distance. “Let's not stay in this street too long and reach the place of the broadcaster as soon as possible.” Cor stressed this screaming by coming behind Louis through the many masses of people. “Okay,” Rens said, and meanwhile pushed Nico against his back several times, so that he reached the first crowd of people on its own.
There the softer voice of the broadcaster sounded through the speakers, who, after naming the winners of the soap boxes, also talked about another part of the ceremony. Nico hoped with sorrow that he would be named as well. The different times of the soap boxes certainly counted. He hoped to hear his first and last name through the speakers. Still a few hundred meters had to be travelled to the stage, despite the fact that Rens and Nico were not completely dry yet. It went with a pace of running to a waiting bus. The panting of the four friends indicated that they were on their way to the two figures and the female broadcaster on stage. Cor and Lodewijk were the first to reach the female broadcaster, with Nico and Rens ten meters away. Given the time they had strangled themselves through the crowd, they were happy to see the two figures still standing. The loud cheering of the crowd for the two figures was even more reason for Rens to push Nico next to the empty white block.
The participants of the soap box race would undoubtedly be somewhere between the crowd, except that there were already two figures on the white blocks. With arms raised up in the air, and half-drunk from one leg to the other, they moved above the audience. The third block looked empty and neglected, and no one seemed to want to stand on it. He tried to untie Rens by speeding up his steps, which barely succeeded. Nico got closer to the point of getting a leg on it. Rens gave with a screaming threat to enter the white block. Nico could only shout “Ouch you hurt me”, but did what Rens proclaimed.
The broadcaster suddenly looked at the back of her pitch next to the white block with number two on it, and just saw that Rens removed his one foot from the white block with no one. She looked nervously from Rens to Nico and then decided to put the microphone on her mouth and audibly name the unannounced person. Deep in her heart, she also knew that this young man was not on her list, but she erased that thought because her boss had not said anything in her microphone earpiece for too long.
Nico stood on the white block for a few seconds and was immediately grasped by the two figures at no. two and no. three, swinging his arms up above his head. Nico looked high above the crowd of people, even more than what the broadcaster saw. The raging applause burst, and it seemed like a dream that apparently would stay with him forever. The broadcaster was still looking with open mouth at the young man who happily put his left hand in the air. The wooden soap box and all that effort after the bridge reclamation seemed to have disappeared into the background. Yet again a feeling to be able to achieve something with a plan that seemed impossible at first.
