Thailand: Visit to Longneck Karen Village in Chang Rai
In northern Thailand, near the border with Myanmar, lies Chiang Rai — a province known for its picturesque mountains, colorful temples, and unique mountain peoples. One of the most intriguing communities you can visit here is the Longneck Karen village, where women have become famous for the brass rings they wear around their necks.
Who are the Longneck Karen?
The Longneck Karen, also known as the Padaung , are part of the Kayan tribe, originally from Myanmar. Due to political conflicts and insecurity in their home countries, many of them fled to Thailand. In Thailand, they live in special villages, often equipped for tourism, such as in the vicinity of Chiang Rai.
