This impressive plant of the Bignoneaceae family, has been decreed as the emblematic tree of Venezuela. The name is of indigenous origin (Caribbean) and describes several species of the genus Tabebuia, of which chrisantha is the emblem species.

It is a medium-sized tree, whose trunk can grow straight or crooked, in dry forests, on the edges of savannas, valleys or arid hills, to heights of 1,200 meters. It is distinguished by a massive flowering, which appears dazzling after its leaves are thrown out due to drought.

a hardwood tree, compact, with a specific weight between 125 and 150. It is among the toughest in the American tropics, because if you throw a piece into the water, it sinks like a rock. It has been used for poles and also as sleepers for railroad rails.

Its flowering is massive and lasts for several days. All the individuals in the area bloom synchronously, about four days after one of the few rains that surprise us in the midst of the drought. The mass flowering is very attractive for the different bees that pollinate them and for the sucusitos and other birds that steal their nectar.
