#venezuela In the extreme south of the state of Guarico in the center of the nation, there is a sector of the Venezuelan plains called Esteros de Camaguan.
This is a part of the southern plains also called low or floodable plains.
It is a floodplain formed by the annual succession of trawling and contribution of sediments carried out by the llaneros rivers in the climate alternation of two periods, drought and rain.
Its striking feature is typical of relief of river morphology that originates forms that are locally called banks, bajios and estuaries.
The banks correspond to elevations above the general level of the plain, which, with exceptions, are not covered by periodic floods of rivers.
The bajios are depressions that in the rainy season fill up, reaching modest depths, less than 25 centimeters.
The estuaries resemble the shales, because they have a depressed position, with a greater extension and are kept with water for much longer, like shallow lagoons.
In the dry season, the bajios dry up and only the estuaries persist, like small lagoons distributed throughout the plain. These remnants of water in the dry season play a very important role in the preservation of animal species.
During the rainy season, various types of faunic species take advantage of the humid conditions. Many birds (herons, ducks) deposit their nests for breeding purposes as do drool, for other mammals it is the birthing season (deer, chiguires).
The truth is that the Camaguan Marshlands are one of the most splendid natural beauties of Venezuela, to appreciate a sunrise or sunset in the plains of Guarico where an endless number of species quench their thirst is unique.
The road crosses the Esteros de Camaguán, you do not even need to get off the car, but if you slow down, and enjoy the scenery all flooded now in rainy season. Nature, green vegetation, lush birds, large tracts of pasture. A beautiful landscape, I invite you to learn more about our Venezuela.

Over the centuries, the look of this beautiful marsh land has changed almost all the time. The centuries of influences of both fresh water from the Rhone and the salty waters of the Mediterranean have gradually given the region its own geophysical character. Due to the many floods, it was not easy for the local population, who lived mainly on agriculture, to provide sufficient food. It was not until the end of the nineteenth century that the water was largely under control. The first seawall was built in 1859. Later, in 1869, the banks of the Rhone were dammed, causing less frequent flooding of the area. After World War II, locals began growing rice in the area. More and more immigration channels were being built to desalin more land. However, all efforts to make the area suitable for agriculture have led to new problems. The Camargue was cut off from the natural inflow of water by all constructed dykes and dams. That's why pump milling and irrigation networks were built up.
Today, the Camargue is largely a nature reserve. Tourists can go horseback riding in the Camargue and marvel at the non-bloody bullfights, the so-called Course Camarguaise, which are staged in the arenas of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Mauguio. The location of the Camargue, between major cities such as Nimes and Arles and the Mediterranean Sea, is ideal for tourists. Despite human adaptations, the swampy plain remains an impressive area to explore by bike, for example.!
