The Cheetah: Pearl of the African Savannah
The cheetah, known for its breathtaking speed and graceful appearance, is one of the African savannah's most iconic animals. Cheetahs are special because of their incredible speed; they are the fastest land animals in the world. With top speeds of 112 kilometers per hour in short sprints, they are true speed demons. Their slim build and adaptations such as enlarged nostrils and lungs support their sprinting abilities.

Cheetah or cheetah
The correct spelling of the word is cheetah , not cheetah . This applies in both English and Dutch. In Dutch, the term is sometimes also Cheetah used to refer to the same animal. The cheetah, known for its impressive speed and slim build, is often misspelled, but the correct and internationally recognized spelling is with an “h” at the end.
Difference between cheetah and leopard
The cheetah is often called in Dutch Cheetah named, even though it's not a real leopard. This name comes from the similarities in appearance and the fact that both animals belong to the feline family. Both have spotted fur and are agile hunters, which probably contributed to the naming. However, there are significant differences between the two species. Cheetahs belong to the genus Acinonyx and are specially adapted to run extremely fast, while leopards belong to the genus Panthera belong and are known for their strength and ability to drag heavy prey into trees.
