The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Review)

“I was born under unusual circumstances”. This is how begins “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, an adaptation of the history of the 20s of the last century written by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about a man (Brad Pitt) who is born at the age of eighty and grows younger over time: a man who, like any of us, cannot stop time.

Without a doubt, a jewel of cinema in the direction of one of my favorite directors, David Fincher, who is once again behind the scenes to direct a genius.

A film full of melancholy, drama and a rather original plot, which although it has elements of films that we have already, still its main base is very original. The film has a good aesthetic that attracts attention, this aspect is very careful, it has good shots with a picturesque touch of the time accompanied by an amazing photograph added to landscapes and places really well achieved. He has a good production because he manages the details very well, from the amount of extras that appear in some scenes and ending with props either by cars from the thirties to costumes of that same period.

The plus of this film is makeup, just for the sake of seeing an aged Brad Pitt who doesn't look like him, they really achieved what they wanted to convey and certainly for this the makeup had to be perfect, and accompanied by special effects creates a genius, as I have always said: “It's not that you don't use effects, but that way is used”. The film lasts three hours and does not get bored at any time, so this is key, because it manages the rhythms very well to keep the viewer attentive.

Maybe in the beginning it won't hook you up so fast, but as you progress you'll achieve that goal. The film manages to be profound and with good philosophical dialogues that give you something to think about and reflect on. The ending is sad and melancholic but with a nice message, because when people get older they are like children in their behavior, so basically it is a contrast of when we are children and when we reach old age.

PS: Don't talk about the performances, because Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchet do an amazing job that needs no introduction.
