The difference between great tit and blue tit
Although the blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) and the great tit (Parus major) are both small songbirds that often live in the same habitat, there are some clear differences between these two species.
Color pattern
The most noticeable difference between the two birds is their color pattern. The blue tit has a clear blue crown and wings, a yellow-green breast and a white belly. The great tit, on the other hand, has a black head with a white cheek, a yellow-green chest and belly, and a black stripe across his eyes that looks like a tie. I always remember it like this: the great tit has a black head because coals are black. A small reminder for those who find it difficult to tell the two birds apart.
Size
In general, the great tit is slightly larger than the blue tit. Great tits have a length of about 14 centimeters, while blue tits are about 11 centimeters long.
behaviours
In terms of behavior, blue tits are often slightly more lively and agile than great tits. They are known for their acrobatic skills as they fly through trees and bushes in search of food.
