Jewish Passover; It is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the liberation of the Hebrew people from the 400 years of slavery under the yoke of the Egyptians. God sent plagues to the oppressors to let the Hebrews return to their land under the leadership of Moses. Easter comes from the word Pasha which means to pass, since the last plague consisted in the death of all the firstborn of Egypt. However, the Israelites, following the instructions given by God to Moses, held a special dinner at which they sacrificed a lamb, ate it as a family and sprinkled the main door of their house with blood of the animal, thereby achieving that when the angel of death passed by to liquidate the firstborn, it passed by in the houses where was the blood of the lamb
Christian Easter; It is the Christian celebration that recalls the victory of Jesus Christ over death. On the third day after his execution by crucixion, Jesus Christ rose again, confirming what was written in the prophecies of the Old Testament and previously announced by himself. Let us remember that Jesus Christ was a Jew and celebrated Passover. In fact what we know as the Last Supper was his celebration of Passover In it he affirmed that now he would be the lamb to sacrifice and his blood would cover those who believe in him to be free, no longer from human oppression, but from sin, giving Passover a new meaning. That is why the words of his cousin, John the Baptist, take meaning when at the beginning of the public life of Jesus Christ, seeing him approaching to be baptized, John states, referring to Jesus, βThis is the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, announcing that he would be the substitute for the lamb at Passover to free from sin with his sacrifice to everyone who believes in him. Since 34 AD. Christianity celebrates the Day of Resurrection.
Easter in Astarte; This is a pagan holiday with respect to the Judeo-Christian tradition, which has become very popular since the middle of the last century. It consists of a celebration of the Babylonians, who offered sacrifices of the fruits of their crops and food to their goddess of fertility and sexuality, Astarte also known as Ishtar. It is believed that two icons of this holiday were rabbits for their reproductive capacity and chicken eggs, although the meaning of the latter is really ignored. They were probably a symbol or offering to Astarte of the food they produced. Currently, the celebration of the Astarte festival is represented by the misnamed Easter Bunny (since it has nothing to do with Easter) and the game of hiding decorated eggs. This tradition has nothing to do with the Jewish celebration of Easter and the Christian Resurrection beyond coinciding on the date.
