While we were having lunch, in Rhenen today, one of us saw a big fat wasp sitting against the window. One of these, which is much bigger than the common wasp, which we all know. It was immediately called in our company: Heeee, that's great Hoornaar! You don't want to get stabbed by that. The sting of a hornet really hurts, worse than a sting of an ordinary wasp. And I know from experience, a wasp sting hurts pretty much already. Fortunately, the poison of the hornet is less powerful than that of an ordinary wasp.


Because I am not a hero, especially not with spiders and insects, but I would like to take a special picture, I dared, behind the glass, to take a picture of it. After all, he was sitting on the outside of the window. Beautiful enough and not too scary to shoot close. I was pretty relaxed.


A nice man across the street from our dining table told, that this is a European Hornet was. Not dangerous, not aggressive. He saw it on the brown legs and on the brown/yellow body. An ordinary wasp (the “lemonade wasp”) is more aggressive than this one, he said. If you do not come near a hornet and you are also in his flight path to that nest, you will not be stabbed
