three factors affect lighting

With the previous lessons, you have started to decide more and more about the photo, step by step. Composition, Scene selection, the knowledge of the icons on your camera. With every camera, these are elements that you can influence yourself. Now we come to the more technical issues with which I'm going to explain how your photo gets the right exposure at the right time. The camera uses this when the camera is on automatic, and if you use scene selection. But the camera doesn't always make the right choice. A camera can only 'measure' and only you can 'see' what you want to capture. The information is good for everyone to understand. It depends on the camera you have, to what extent you can manually set the different factors.

But first the theory.

The exposure is determined by 3 factors, namely the time the lens transmits light (shutter speed), the size of the lens aperture (aperture) and the sensor's light sensitivity (ISO value). Here always has to be the right balance to get a good light on your photo. So if the photo is too dark or too light, you can adjust it by sliding with one of the three values.

Don't be afraid of this complex figure! I'm going to explain it all step by step! What you need to get together first is the following:

Your photo is well exposed if you have the right balance between SHUTTER SPEED, DIAPHRAGM and ISO VALUE.
