The face of a winner

The story tells about a man who failed in business and went bankrupt in 1831.
He was defeated for the legislature in 1832.
His fiancee died in 1835.
He suffered a nervous breakdown in 1836.
He was defeated in the 1836 elections and in the parliamentarians of 1843, 1846, 1848 and 1855.
He was unsuccessful in his aspiration for vice-presidency in 1856, and in 1858 he was defeated in the senate elections.

This stubborn man was Abraham Lincoln, elected president of the United States, in 1860
