Throughout 54 editions, the International Fair of La Chinita was held in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia state, a tradition that is headed by the patron saint of all Zulians, the image of Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, having as its central day, every November 18th of each year.
It should be noted that the La Chinita Fair is a festival that takes place with a deep religious sense and over the years took shape to become international, where there is no shortage of parties, parrandas, concerts, cultural, craft and commercial exhibitions, sports activities and, of course, the one that brings enthusiasm to the people marabino, the bagpipe.
It is one of the most important fairs in Venezuela, it can be said that it goes hand in hand with the San Sebastián Fairs in San Cristóbal, Táchira state and the Sun Fairs in Mérida, Mérida state.
One of the main attractions of this fair is the traditional piper dawn which takes place in the Plazoleta of the Basilica de la Chiquinquirá with the participation of the greatest exponents pipers of Zulia, who offer a serenade to the virgin.
The Masses and processions in honor of the virgin of La Chinita are another of the great festivities that Catholic faithful from all over Venezuela go to ask for favors from the Patroness of the Zuliano people.
Another of the activities that stands out at the fair is the famous La Chinita Game at the Luis Aparicio “El Grande” stadium, where the local team of the “Aguilas del Zulia” welcomes their rival as part of the regular round of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League and compete for the La Chinita Trophy.
In addition, major piping concerts and national and international artists in any genre adorn the city during its patron saint's festivities.
Until a few years ago, bullfights were other events that took place in this town as part of the La Chinita International Fair, with important figures of the world bullfighting.
On the other hand, ExpoZulia is another main point to attend, as it has a series of cultural and gastronomic events for adults and children.
Finally, these festivities start from around the first of November, being their central day on November 18 and end with the procession of the image of the Virgin of La Chinita and climbing back to its altar on the first Sunday of December, where the fairs and festivals are over.
Since 2004, a Mini Fair of La Chinita has been held, especially on its central day in the city of Madrid, Spain. Made by Venezuelans in homage to the patron saint of the loved land of the sun, where religious activities are carried out including piper serenades by a piper group of Venezuelans residing in the European country.
Fairs and Festivals that are part of Venezuelan Cultural Traditions and which everyone should know as part of those things that unite us all as children of this country.
