#history The first republic was born, it should be noted that we must thank General Francisco de Miranda very much. The 5th of July 1811 was the highlight of Spanish rule in the American subcontinent, who was subject to exploitation of the kingdom of Spain, as well as being a historic day for the nations of South America that were declaring successively its independence.
It is during July 5 that the Venezuelan congress officially declared its separation from Spain, through the document known as the “Act of the Declaration of Independence”. On this date, the representatives of the seven provinces belonging to the former Captaincy General of Venezuela (Caracas, Barquisimeto, Cumana, Barcelona, Merida, Margarita and Trujillo) gathered in the Chapel Santa Rosa de Lima in Caracas, made the separation of the Spanish Crown effective and established a new South American nation.
The Act of Independence represented the principles of equality among Venezuelan inhabitants, and the abolition of many impediments that sustained the Spanish empire: such as trade, economic non-independence, freedom of Venezuelan lands and the inability to be a republican country. The act of independence largely consolidated the dreams of Venezuelan procerers, enshrining the constitutional principles they argued.
Those who exerted the greatest pressure in that instance to declare Independence were Francisco de Miranda and Simon Bolívar, who were part of the so-called Patriotic Society, which was created after the April 19, 1810 movement with the aim of discussing economic, social and political problems.
The Act of Independence, drafted by Juan Germán Roscio and Francisco Isnardi, was approved by the deputies of the seven provinces, which formed the “American Confederation of Venezuela in the Southern Continent”.
The National Statistics Institute (INE) commemorates this homeland date in the knowledge that the Independence of Venezuela was the most important event that the country had during the nineteenth century, representing a movement of parties that consolidated Venezuelan independence, and had an impact on other southern countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, all under the military and political leadership of Simon Bolívar.
