With the arrival of German immigrants in 1881, who settled on the shores of Lake Ypacaraí, the city of San Bernardino was born. Among the colonists who arrived, there were several beer manufacturers.

Don Pedro Herken was one of them. Shortly after his arrival, in 1885, he founded the first brewery that existed in Paraguay, which produced Black Beer.

People came to “Sanber” to enjoy the fresh beer, which had the name of Fulgencio Yegros, and the welcoming atmosphere.

The feat of Don Pedro Herken contributed to the economic and social development of the city of San Bernardino, being a symbol of German heritage in Paraguay.

As a corollary, it can be mentioned that in the first decade of the 20th century, specifically in 1906, the National Brewery, a beer and ice factory, was created by the brothers Juan and Pedro Bossio. And finally, Pilsen Nacional was born in 1912, a product that to this day refreshes all Paraguayans.
