The GALA and the rules.
The time for the galas has arrived, and I mean the final galas for high school students. My eldest daughter is the first in our family to go there and I must confess that I think it is quite an undertaking. In my time, you also had a party after the exams, to unload together after the central exam. And that also took place before the exam results were known, but my goodness, that was really much less hassle. We had a themed party at the time (“Western”) and since I come from a carnival-loving environment, an outfit was perfect. That's a bit different at the gala, today's galas are very similar to the proms in America and I think I'm not wrong if I say that “we” also took over from there. Of course, over the past few years, I've had it. received from nieces and nephews who went to a gala and I've also made our car available before, but I didn't really delve into it, I must confess.
A gala includes rules of etiquette and I'm actually sorry that little attention is paid to them. Of course, that would make such a party completely special. It's actually “good” to go to the gala with a partner. Anyway, I don't even think this is surprising that this is not an issue in the Netherlands. Of course, the students are often a bit younger than “in the USA” and not all have a partner. In my opinion, the students here are also a bit freer than there. Anyway, the invitation, according to etiquette, it should be like this: “First of all, the gentleman asks the lady in a letter handwritten with a silver pen on blue paper if she wants to accompany him to the gala.
The lady then replies with a handwritten letter with a golden pen on pink paper. In which she invites the gentleman to come and have a cup of tea. During this visit, the gala will not be discussed, but she will tell him what to expect from her. If she does not serve anything with tea, she rejects his request. If she serves cookies with tea, he shouldn't expect anything else from her after the gala. If she serves homemade or purchased cake, she is interested in more than just the gala and he must conquer her after the gala. If she serves cream cake, he has already conquered her”
