The moon beeps from behind the clouds like a small sickle. A shadow falls over the lawn, which looks dark grey in the scarce light. At least, it looks like a shadow, because there is no concrete thing or anyone that could cause it. It moves. Not only from left to right, but also changes in size.
Toos looks fascinated between the curtains. A shudder runs down her back. An indefinite feeling flows through her body. Is it old age that is playing tricks on her? The moment she closes the curtains, she hears a heavy murmur. Wow, that wind is really raging. The noise just keeps going. For a moment, Toos comes up with a vague memory. No, she shakes her head at the crazy thought. But one and one is definitely still two? First that moon, then that wind.
Toos thinks back with melancholy to the time when her Sinterklaas faith wasn't wavering yet. What an exciting time that has been. But well, back then, leaning over the back seat in the car, was so stupid to herald the first impetus to the demise of the Saint Mystery.
She still remembers it like it was yesterday. She was nine years old. Her brothers were already a bit older. “Mom,” Toosje then shouted exuberantly: “why do you have three smartie chocolate letters in your shopping bag? Three T's.'
Theo also got down on his knees, Tom followed his example. Was there anything we could do about the fact that seat belts were not mandatory at the time?
Mom's reaction hit like a bomb. All at once, she pulled out all the stops to punish their curiosity.
“Yes, well, I'll do my best to pay for it as secretly as possible, so you don't see it, are you browsing through my messages. I can tell you that this marks the death sentence of Santa Claus.'
Despite the fact that Toos didn't understand the difficult language at the time, she still remembers the sentence well. From that year on, she was the only one in the house to receive gifts with Sinterklaas, much to the dissatisfaction of her brothers. They never forgave her.
A gentle knock brings Toos back to the present. Is she hearing that right now? Is someone tapping the window? Then a loud knock. Banged. Gently whisked, hard knocked. her heart beats too, like a raging. This can't be a coincidence. Would Saint be resurrected? Gathering up all the courage, Toos opens the door. The noise intensifies, her garden is half lit. A major danger still swings back and forth; two dark figures are working with razor lines.
Toos' mouth is astonished when she vaguely recognizes the alleged Black Petes. Surely that can't be true?
“Hai zussie,” Tom says first and looks at his watch. The church bell rings twelve times.
“Just tie this last line,” says Theo.
“Congratulations on your fiftieth birthday, Toos,” says Tom and kisses Toos on both cheeks.
“That you haven't forgotten that.“Completely overwhelmed, Toos looks at the two.
“Don't forget, forgive,” says Theo.
Finally, her brothers forgave her that she was the only one with Santa Claus who still received gifts. A larger gift is not possible, and she is happy to watch the inflatable Sara fill her garden.

I was the oldest at home, so the fun ended quickly to celebrate Sinterklaas with my younger brother and sister.
