The hummingbird butterfly
Like the hummingbird, the Hummingbird butterfly hangs in front of flowers from which it extracts nectar with its long tongue.
The butterfly flaps its wings up to 70 to 80 times per second.
It has the longest tongue of all flower-visiting insects and can also be seen in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Its wings are yellow at the back and are therefore more conspicuous than its grey front wings.
He belongs to the group of stingtail butterflies. You can't tell by him, but you can tell by his light green caterpillar with short yellow stripes in the middle of his body. A spine at the back, which all the stingtail caterpillars have, makes it clear that it belongs to this group.
