The impact of masks
#writingchallenge Face masks protect others, the main way coronavirus spreads, is from person to person through respiratory droplets that occur when the infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
A large controlled trial in Bangladesh, involving more than 340,000 people in 600 villages, shows that interventions that promote the use of masks reduce the spread of COVID-19 and that surgical masks work better than cloth masks. Interventions tripled the proportion of people wearing masks correctly. In villages where masks were distributed, symptomatic infections were 9.3% lower (11% if surgical masks were distributed). Older people benefited the most (with a 35% reduction in symptomatic COVID-19 among people over 60 years old).
Without a doubt, the mask is performing a favorable function!
