The Last Call Entry in: Write a Short Mystery Story with a Plot Twist
Detective Ayaan had seen his fair share of strange cases, but this one was different. The call came late at night — a woman’s frantic voice reporting a missing husband, Amir. She said he vanished from their locked apartment, with no signs of forced entry.
When Ayaan arrived at the sleek downtown flat, the only clue was a phone lying on the floor, screen cracked, still showing Amir’s last outgoing call. The wife, Sara, explained that Amir had been acting distant lately, secretive, even paranoid. She hadn’t seen him since the previous evening.
The detective began his investigation with the apartment. No windows were open, no doors tampered with. Amir’s wallet, keys, and phone were all inside — except his phone was on the floor, cracked. It seemed someone had dropped it during a struggle, but there was no sign of any struggle.
Ayaan dug deeper into Amir’s life. At work, colleagues said Amir had been working late on a confidential project. No enemies, no known debts or threats. But there was one strange detail: Amir’s last call was to a number unregistered in any contact list, a number Sara said she didn’t recognize.
