The mystery called love... Entry in: Write a Short Mystery Story with a Plot Twist
Love at first sight. I still can't believe it. It's really a mystery. Sometimes I pinch myself in the cheek to make sure it's all real.
I'm going to be honest, I had given up a long time ago, didn't even believe that “the one” existed. A tough male type but with a high level of cuddling. Robust but lovely to snuggle up to, let's say.
I had been looking around the world wide web for a while but was often disappointed and the click of that is him, it really wasn't there. Until one day I saw his photo! He looked cool, at least on photo, because you never know if that's true in reality, of course, and I also noticed a kind of softness right away. I was immediately upset. But as always, I started to have doubts even before I pressed send. Should I do that now, is this a good idea now, I'm not getting too excited, my subconscious self, wasn't afraid to take the plunge yet so a few weeks went by. I did look at his photo regularly and then dream about how wonderful it could be. Those few weeks quickly turned into a month, and he quietly faded into the background in my mind. What Charlie, his name by the way, looked in his photo was etched in my memory. My life went on, and with the ceramics classes and the holidays just around the corner, I had plenty to do not give in to the jitters I got when I thought about Charlie. After a while, I decided to take another look at the site where I saw him and sure enough, he was still on it. I deliberated, I typed and erased, I hesitated even more and came up with all the reasons not to have to press the send button anyway. But then something happened that I didn't expect at all.
One day I went to the local mall, took a look around for Christmas presents. You know it, shop in, shop out, lost in thought, or peering at a family members' wish list. Tired of the noise and the many people walking around in such a shopping center. Anyway so I walk into the next store and who do I see standing there? Right, Charlie, just as cool as in the picture and yet exuding a certain softness. My heart almost jumped out of my body, I thought I was going to faint, it felt like no one else was in the store. Just the two of us, I couldn't help but stare at him, my gaze glided from top to bottom and left to right to fully absorb his shape. I don't know what others thought of me, but the click was there and before I knew it, we were having fun in the shopping center. I don't even know how long I sat there, but it was clear that I fell in love instantly. Once back home, I left no stone unturned, I had no trouble pressing send.
