THE REEST IS A MEANDER (Watercourse)

#DEREEST 😍 A #meander is a loop in the course of a natural #waterloop (stream, river or sea currents). A succession of meanders forms a meandering river. Such loops arise from rivers or streams due to the fact that in the outer bend, where the water flows most quickly, soil is washed away, while on the other side soil is deposited. The bank where the soil is eroded is called a bumper, and the bank where material is deposited is the sliding bank.
De Reest is originally a peat river that, using the #Reestdal , since the Holocene drains excess water from the bogs on the border area of Drenthe and Overijssel. From the higher soils it receives salt water. In the valley there are emergencies of decksand, above it referred to as -horst (Havixhorst, Lankhorst and others), downstream as -mountain (Wildenberg). The catchment area, which has always been remarkably narrow (from several hundred meters to one kilometre) and has very few side-lines, originally covered 25,000 hectares but, due to the redevelopment of the drainage, is directed to the Dedemsvaart and Vecht and, on the other hand, the Hoogeveensche Sail, reduced to about 6000 ha.
