The Shining is a horror and suspense film that was released in 1980. It is directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers.
Jack Torrance moves with his family to the impressive Overlook hotel in Colorado to maintain the facilities during the winter period, when it is closed and isolated by snow. His goal is to find peace and tranquility to write a novel. However, shortly after his arrival at the hotel, at the same time as Jack begins to suffer from disturbing personality disorders, strange and creepy paranormal phenomena occur.
Now that you know what it's about, let's talk about 'The Shinning', that Stanley Kubrick masterpiece which is considered the masterpiece of horror and suspense cinema. Kubrick is considered by many to be one of the best directors for his peculiar way of making films, although many also find his films boring. The film has several impressionable elements, especially in the technical and visual aspects, Kubrick was an expert in taking care of the details, they were things that were never overlooked and you can see that the film is filmed wanting things to be in place, besides visually it is wonderful, the setting, the locations of the hotel and its surroundings really are incredible, it is indeed the characteristic touch of the director.
The plot is also striking, it has deep dialogues that are necessary to involve you in its plot, although it has very long sequences which in many parts was unnecessary for the film, because it could last less and still be very effective, because it lasts almost two hours and twenty minutes, so for me it has a lot of footage to spare. This can make her a little tedious for a few short periods of time. Although they are some details, because basically everything in a general setting is perfect.
Spoiler alert! (If you haven't seen the movie you can pass this paragraph)
It has many things that I liked, such as the number of scenes or memorable moments it has, I thought the maze scene was very good as did the woman in the bathtub. And how to forget the legendary scene of girls on the tricycle or when a lot of blood comes out of the elevator. No doubt the film has great sequences and very good scenes. Anyone who saw it will agree with me because it's awesome.
Something that gives the perfect touch to the setting is the soundtrack that keeps you looking forward at all times, because it's really right.
The performances have a high level, they are very good. So if you want to enjoy even more, I recommend watching the film in the original language, because the dubbing leaves much to be desired. I loved Jack Nicholson's performance where he embodies an unhinged psychopath — a guy who has lost his mind. The scene where he loses his composure is of another level, and the ending is another one that gives a lot to talk about, is quite confusing with the subject of photography, but that leaves you thinking and surprised.
Without a doubt a cult film, we see Kubrick's perfectionist work in 'The Shining, 'a classic of cinema that we should all see.
