The Snake of Ipure
Demonstration of indigenous origin based on a legend of the Capaya Indians, referring to the yellowtail snake and transmitted from generation to generation up to the present day.
It is held in Monagas State in Venezuela, in the village of Ipure originally, today we have tried to give it more relevance as a cultural heritage to be recognized in all parts of the country.
The legend
In the state of Monagas in the municipality of Acosta lived a family that sent their daughters to find water to a nearby lagoon because the parents were busy with the work of labouring the land, not before warning the daughters that in the lagoon lives a huge snake that should not be disturbed.
Once in the lagoon one of the daughters lost into the water one of the vessels she carried and entered the lagoon to recover it, instantly the calm water of the lagoon began to make large circles, like a swirl, which prevented the girl from coming out of the water.
The other girl went for help, brought her parents, the villagers, even the shaman of the community, who with songs and prayers entered the water and poison the monumental snake, which I drag to the shore, to get the dead girl out of her womb.

The Dance
It consists of 25 dancers, the first 20 are dressed in skirt and blouse of flights, usually black and yellow flights, the last 5 ballerinas go with skirt and blouse totally yellow, simulating the tail of the snake.
Young girls dance making a chain, with arms on the shoulders of the previous one, move around the space making movements characteristic of a snake, roll up and unwind harmoniously, simulating the snake that goes in search of the girl.
The instruments
This dance is accompanied by our four, drum, flute and some wooden sticks that keep the rhythm.
The song has lyrics, which talk about the snake and its movements and the care you have to take with it.
