#Boosteroftheday

Why does the Shofar in this month of Elul?

You knew that from the second day of Rosh Khodesh Elul (1 of the month of Elul) until the eve of Rosh Hashanah, every day except in Shabbat, at the end of the Shajarit service, the Shofar is played by making 4 sounds (tekiah, shevarim, terua, tekiah) In some communities 10 sounds are played.
Although making the Shofar sound is not a Precept of the Torah, it has its origin in the Jewish tradition, when Moshe Rabenu ascended Mount Sinai in Rosh Khodesh Elul, to receive the second Tables of the Law, he made the Shofar touch in the camp of Israel, so that everyone would know that he had ascended to Heaven, and take care not to sin once again with idolatry.
Thus, it became to sound the Shofar, from Rosh Khodesh Elul, to remember these events, and awaken repentance also in us.

The Shofar is only played after the prayers of Shaharit (Morning Prayer), because Moshe ascended early in the morning.
The Shofar is played throughout the month of Elul to alert the people about the proximity of Judgment Day and thus stimulate their repentance, the essence of the sounds of the Shofar is to awaken fear in the hearts of men, as expressed in the verse in (Amos 3:6)

β€œIf the Shofar is played in the city, won't the town shudder?”

The same sound of the Shofar announces to the people: β€œSleepers wake up from your lethargy..”
