As a true Flemish I do have a thing for poppies. .
After all, the iconic poem 'In Flanders Fields' in mind,
is the link with WW1 and the bloodcolander part of our history.

I didn't know the story and symbolism of his white sister yet, so until today.
The white poppy is usually pinned by women and represents their participation in the peace negotiations and its necessity. She is also a symbol for women's rights and against sexual violence towards women (whether or not in wartime).

The choice for a white poppy has been made partly due to the link to the red poppy (a peace symbol). But where the red variant is often worn by soldiers and has a military touch, the white variant has been chosen here to emphasize the fragility and fragility of women in war.
