The last three plagues are sent upon Egypt: locusts devour all crops and vegetables; tangible darkness envelops the earth; and all the firstborn of Egypt are eliminated at midnight on the 15th of Nisan.
The Israelites are also instructed to offer a “Paschal Sacrifice” to Hashem: a lamb or a kid to be slaughtered and some of his blood should be sprinkled on the jambs of the gates of every Israeli house, so that Hashem may skip them when he comes to kill the firstborn Egyptians. The roasted meat of the offering was to be eaten that same night along with matzah (unleavened bread) and bitter herbs.
The death of the firstborn finally breaks Pharaoh's resistance and literally throws the Children of Israel out of their land.
