When we talk about "extinct", many of us will think about dinosaurs and mammoths. While these are indeed prehistoric creatures that have been gone for a very long time, there are alot of animals that go extinct every year. Animals we can admire today, might not be here anymore in a few years time. In the last 50 years alone, more than 2000 species of animals and plants went extinct. While our climate changes and the animals' natural habitats gets smaller and smaller, these numbers continue to grow exponentially.
That's why today I want to give a small shout-out to 5 amazing animals which we have lost over the last 100 years and what they were like.

Guam Flying Fox
Also known as the 'Little Marianas fruit bat', this small bat species was first spotted in 1931. The last confirmed sighting was in 1967, where a female Guam Flying Fox was seen at Tarague Cliff. There were claims of people who saw the bat in the 70's, but this was never officially confirmed.
In Sept 2021, the species was officially declared extinct by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
