Three Wise Men

Every January 6, in several countries of Latin America, Europe and other parts of the world, the Day of the Magi is celebrated, which recalls the adoration of which the child Jesus was subjected by the three Three Wise Men, as a sign of the recognition of the pagan world that Jesus Christ is the king and savior of humanity.

According to tradition, the three wise men were called Melchor, Gaspar and Balthazar. It is said that there were three foreign visitors who, after the birth of the baby Jesus, came from other countries to honor him and give him gifts of a great symbolic wealth such as gold, myrrh and incense.

Kings are related as powerful, noble and wise men, possibly monarchs of eastern Mediterranean nations, and who, by their culture and spirituality, cultivated their knowledge of man and nature by making special efforts to maintain contact with God.

Until approximately 474, the remains of the kings were in Constantinople, the most important Christian capital of the East.

Later, they were transferred to Milan Cathedral in Italy, and then taken to Cologne, Germany, where they remain until now.

The gospel according to Matthew is the only one that refers to some magi (does not mention whether they were kings or how many were) who, after following a supposed star (the so-called star of Bethlehem), seek the “king of the Jews who was born in Jerusalem”, whom they finally manage to find after being guided by that celestial body.

Other apocryphal gospels claim that the magi had some family bond and that they arrived with three legions of soldiers: one from Babylon, one from Persia and one from Asia. Later performances revealed that the magicians came from Europe, Asia and Africa
