Thyroid problems are becoming more common.
This is mainly due to our lifestyle and exposure to toxins in our habitat.
It is estimated that between 500 000 and 1 million Dutch people have some form of thyroid disease.
In Belgium, there are 800000 to 1 million people with thyroid disease.
In women, thyroid disease is 4 to 8 times more common than in men.

Here are the main risk factors for thyroid disease:

  • use of certain medications
  • stress
  • smoking or smoked
  • high cholesterol
  • too high or low blood pressure
  • overfatigue
  • be burn⸺-out or overworked
  • myalgia
  • problems with pregnancy
  • problems with menstruation
  • disrupted metabolism
  • mood fluctuations

Although thyroid disorders are usually treated with conventional medicines, you can also benefit greatly from a modified diet.

Stress and smoking also have an impact, so it's already a good start to calm things down and finally give up smoking.
