Al Son Que Nos Toquen is a saying that is used in Venezuela to say that, if we know something well, it is the art of solving, with what we have and in any area of life.
The same thing happens in dance. Dancers conceive dance as a way of walking through life. Most of the time without support from the State, having to dedicate themselves to teaching activities such as yoga or pilates to investigate other movements and even to be able to support themselves, starting family businesses, emigrating or rehearsing little.
This is what inspired journalist Marcy Alejandra Rangel to gather at least 20 testimonies from directors of contemporary dance companies in a book entitled Al son que nos toquen, a long-lasting cultural chronicle, which contains the entire history of contemporary dance in Venezuela told through its protagonists.
