Madonna is one of the best female pop music artists of all time. Her star rose as the music video matured as a form of visual art. She's made some of the most memorable videos of all time. Here are the top ten that cover three decades of her career.

1. Vogue - 1990

Hundreds of dancers auditioned for the parts in Madonna's “Vogue” music video. Many of the dancers also appeared with Madonna at her concert “Blond Ambition”. The clip was directed by David Fincher, who would later become one of the most celebrated contemporary film directors. Many of the scenes in the video are deliberate reproductions of Horst P. Horst. Close-up forms echoes of Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich and Jean Harlow. “Vogue” was filmed on a set of art deco themes. Madonna sparked controversy by wearing a lace blouse that seems to expose her breasts. MTV asked for removal but Madonna declined. What remained was a beautiful and elegant tribute developed in the underground gay ballroom culture. The choreography was designed by Karole Armitage, who earned a Tony Award nomination for the choreography of the revival of the Broadway musical “Hair” in 2009. The music video “Vogue” received nine MTV Video Music Award nominations that won three awards. “Rolling Stone” listed “Vogue” as the #2 music video of all time in 1999, the second time only for Michael Jackson's “Thriller”.
