#Sloveni as a holiday country? Slovenia is located between the two major tourist powers Italy and Croatia on the Adriatic coast. Slovenia has beautiful #natuur , interesting #steden and a lot of #cultuur - Yes. Despite the fact that there are only about 2 million people in this country, there is much to do! Travel along the most beautiful #meren , the most vibrant cities and the most impressive caves.

The beginning of your journey

For a tour in Slovenia there are different options. It is possible to fly directly to the capital Ljubljana from Schiphol Airport. These flights are often more expensive or fly with a transfer. A good option is to fly to Venice and travel from there to Slovenia. It is also possible to drive to Slovenia yourself from the Netherlands. Here it takes about 12 and a half hours.

Once you arrive in Slovenia, you can choose to continue travelling with your own car, car rental or public transport. The roads in Slovenia are of excellent quality and public transport is well arranged between the larger tourist resorts. If you want to find some more unknown places in the country it is recommended to arrange your own car or rental car.

Ljubljana

The capital of Slovenia has about 280,000 inhabitants in 2020 and is therefore a relatively small capital. Despite that, there is plenty to do in this bustling capital! Along the canal you will find many restaurants and bars. There is a nice atmosphere in the summer, so it is possible to enjoy the sun along the water and there are full street performers in the city.Some nice things to see are the different bridges in Ljubljana. You have the famous “Dragon Bridge”, but also the “3 bridges crossroads”. It is also possible to take a nice bike ride through the city or walk in 'Tivoli park'.

On a green hill in the middle of the city you will find 'Ljubljana Castle'. From Ljubljana Castle you have a beautiful view over the city. An entrance ticket for the castle is 10 euros for adults and 7 euros for children. Inside the castle you can climb the highest tower and enjoy various museums about the history of the castle, but also about the general history of Slovenia.You can use the #kasteel of Slovenia by foot, but there is also an affordable cable car that takes you up and down.

In the northwest of the country you will find the lake of #- Bled - Yes. Lake - Bled is suitable for swimming and the water is nice and cool in the summer. At Lake - Bled it is also possible to visit the church in the middle of the lake. Many outdoor activities are organised in the area. For example, it is an opportunity to go canoe on the lake or to go mountain biking in the area.A tip to visit from bled is the 'Vintgar Gorge'. This is a beautiful gorge with well-laid hiking trails along many beautiful streams and waterfalls.


Postojna

The Postojna caves are located in the south of Slovenia and are the most visited dripstone caves in the world. You take a train into the caves and eventually walk with a guide through the 3 km long caves. It is madness how big some of the dripstones are. Just dress well before you go into the caves even though it's 30 degrees outside, in the caves it's always around 10 degrees.Next to the caves is Predjama castle. This castle was created in the 12th century in the side of a rock and definitely worth a visit.If you want to visit both the caves and the castle there are several combination tickets for sale.
