Transplant your orchids as soon as you get them.

How industrial orchid growers trick people.
It took me a while to discover it myself. But nowadays, the roots of orchids are wrapped in peat. They either do this in a small plastic basket or drape it around it.
It is likely that this will initially promote flowering. But when the orchids are big enough to be sold in supermarkets, they immediately start to deteriorate.
How is this happening?
Orchids normally grow in rainforests. They are not in the ground. Their seeds continue to be spread by insects or by the wind. They then end up on the tropical bark of a tree, if they're lucky. Then they immediately begin to develop roots and a tiny plant. The roots of an orchid hang freely over the bark of a tree to which they attach. The roots of the orchid, like their leaves; photosynthesize.
The more roots they get, the more flowers they develop at the top of stems.
Ik heb er nu wel een paar kleintjes waarvan de bladeren beschimmelen. (Nog nooit gehad.) Misschien eens dat knoflookwater proberen....
Sommige van mijn orchideeën heb ik al 25 jaar lang
