It's only 5 in the morning when we get in the car. We have a long drive of about 980 km ahead of us.
Our destination on day 1: Lake Chiemsee, in Bavaria, Germany.

With its 80 km² and a circumference of approximately 64 km, Chiemsee (read as “Kiemzee”) is the largest lake in Bavaria and the third largest in Germany. Across the water, you can see the foothills of the Alps in the distance.

For us, it is not much more than a passage on the way to another country, but a deliberate departure from the motorway.
We want to have a holiday feeling from day 1.

Nice detail: we're going to eat at a restaurant that gets great reviews on TripAdvisor: Mesnr Stub'n. The service wears Bavarian costumes. The men wear lederhosen and the women wear dirndl, a traditional dress.
The staff also wears these costumes at the hotel in the municipality of Bernau, where we spend the night, a little higher up in the forerunners of the Alps.
