Travellers Tattoo- I am always impressed these days when I see the number of tattoos worn out in public, in all walks of life. Gone are the days of tattoos that merely symbolized crime, gangsterism, or the evil 'evil'. People everywhere accept the ability to wear tattoos without being looked down upon, or restricted to health when it comes to work, family and social conditions.
So considering the popularity of tattoos these days I have 3 tips for wearing tattoos, whether it is your first or 50s!
1. DO YOUR RESEARCH Much fun with your tattoo depends on the research. Instead of waking up in the morning and saying "I want to get a tattoo today", and then go to your local tattoo parlor and get a tattoo based on the idea you have on your head or something they have on their walls, do some research first. Most of the best tattoos come from a combination of ideas gained from extensive research, and many people who are passionate about their tattoos have a collection of books, or downloaded ebooks, that they use to get ideas and inspiration. If you are one of those people who takes yourself seriously with tattoos, I highly recommend 'taking' serious things and creating your own home library that you can go through while relaxing to work on your tattoo collection. You will be amazed at how easy it is to know exactly what you want on your skin and when you have a great resource center you have.
2. KNOW YOURSELF Most people get a tattoo based on where they are in life, at the time. For example, when they were 18 years old, they got a tattoo that represented them at the age of 18; when they were 24 they got a tattoo that represented them at the age of 24; and when they were 44 they got a tattoo that represented them at 44 etc. Do you think the painting that was discovered at the age of 18 will still be satisfying, reliable and in most cases actually required for 44 years? Well in most cases it is not, and that is because the tattoo he received actually reflects the culture and experience of the age, not the person. If you want to avoid this it means that a deep knowledge of you is needed, basic things like knowing where you are going in life; knowing how you feel among other people: knowing what you want to represent other people. Knowing yourself may prevent you from getting that Decepticon tattoo on your heart when you are 19, which is a better place later in life.
3. KNOW YOUR TATTOOIST Knowing what you want your tattoo to do is very important, not just your body, but in what studio and who. Certainly all of us are blocked by distance, most of us finding it difficult to travel overseas to Germany, or England, or Australia to get our next tattoo done. Instead, get to know the tattoo artists in places you can go to, so if you can only travel to your local area and spend some time visiting your local tattoo parlors. If you can go a little further go out and spend some time looking at all the artists or studios in operation, or log on to their website if they have one and check out the works posted there. Most of the time it is better not to go to the artist or the studio because a friend said they are fine; or because a friend already has a good piece made for the artist already. 'If a friend told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?' No, so don't go to the artist or the studio because someone said they were really good. Find out for yourself first whether a particular artist is right, and if that artist is always right, and deserves the piece you intend to get.
Tattooing is a lifelong process, and most people who wear tattoos get the first one when they are under 25 years old. So between 25 years and life expectancy there are most of us about 50 years or more. Taking time and consideration when getting a tattoo usually removes the pain of embarrassing tattoos, coverage and complete removal. Examine yourself as much as possible before you get a tattoo, as the more you see and know, the better equipped you will be to make what is known as an 'informed decision'.
So with your next tattoo you can just wake up in the morning and just say 'I'll draw', instead say 'I'll draw next week' and spend the week you gave us. yourself do as much research as you can and make that 'informed decision' that will last a lifetime.
