Tree marten

The tree marten, with a head-hull length of approx. 40-50 cm and a tail length of approx. 25 cm, is approximately the size of a slim domestic cat. Although they do not differ so much in size, males (1,200-1,900 g) are much heavier than females (850-1,300 g). The coat is predominantly warm brown to light ruddy, the undercoat is grey-brown. Legs and muzzle are dark brown, the eye-catching throat is white to bright orange. Tree martens are particularly nimble animals and excellent climbers. Thanks to their long, poultry tail, they can move with the greatest ease and speed in tree crowns. Thanks to a special hip joint, they are perfectly capable of walking down on logs. #boommarter
