Turkish coins in circulation, similar to a 2 euro coin
De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) warns against Turkish coins that are in circulation in the Netherlands. The 1 lira coin looks a lot like the 2 euro coin, but is worth just under five cents. Moreover, it is not legal tender here, so you can't do much with it. What to look out for? The reason for the warning is a remarkable increase in the number of reports, according to the central bank of the Netherlands. Several Dutch people reported to De Nederlandsche Bank who found 1 Turkish lira coins in their wallets, instead of a 2 euro coin. In the past, DNB has often warned about the similarity of the two coins, but, based on recent reports, saw “reason to repeat the warning again”.

So it's always worthwhile to check if you're getting the right change, even if the currency is visually almost identical at first glance.
