A bit unnatural, of course, as there are no natural freshwater turtles in the Netherlands.
Exotic #freshwaterturtles are kept as pets.
Six species of turtles are regularly seen in Dutch waters, namely the red-cheeked, yellow-cheeked, yellow-bellied and saw-backed turtles.
Our climate is too cold for successful reproduction, but some animals can survive for years. Climate change could make them feel even more at home in the Netherlands.
Most species like to sunbathe, often lying on wood and stones.
